Meet the City of Flagler Beach's Mayor and Commissioners

 

Mayor Alice M. Baker

Mayor Baker has been a resident of Flagler Beach since 1978 and has been Mayor since 2006.  She worked for the City of Flagler Beach from 1979 to 1996 and returned for special assignments several times since she "retired."  Mayor Baker is actively involved with the Flagler Beach Women's Club; Flagler League of Cities and the Flagler Beach Historical Museum.

Chair Jane Mealy

Chairman Jane Mealy is currently in her second term as City Commissioner and was voted by the other Commissioners to Chair of the Commission this year.  Formerly, from Central Islip, New York, she was an educator for 36 years.  She has been a resident of Flagler Beach for seven years.  Her interest in city government includes:  economic development; implementation of the Charrette /Master Plan; improving the City while maintaining small town Old Florida atmosphere and overall doing what's right for the majority of residents, not individuals or special interest groups.

Commissioner Mealy is actively involved in the following organizations:  Flagler Woman's Club - Treasurer; University Women of Flagler - President; League of Women Voters; Sierra Club of Volusia/Flagler; Flagler Beach Historical Museum - City Liaison; Flagler County Historical Society; Flagler County Symphonic Society; Flagler Beach and Flagler County Chambers of Commerce; City Representative to Enterprise Flagler; Flagler County and Florida League of Cities (Home Rule Administration Council).

Educational Background:  BS Queens College, City University of New York; Post-graduate credits from Queens College; Adelphi University; CW Post Campus; Long Island University.

Training:  Staff Development/Educational Leadership by NY State United Teachers/American Federation of Teachers; National Association of Federal Credit Unions while serving on the Board of Directors of Teachers Federal Credit Union, where she also served on the Supervisory, Personnel and Marketing Committees; Employee Assistance Programs; School to Career programs; Mediation and Arbitration.

Vice Chairman - John Feind

Commission John Feind is in his third term as a City Commission and served as Chairman and now as Vice Chairman.  He has been a homeowner in Flagler Beach for over twenty years.  His interest in your City's government includes:  fiscal responsibility; continued city control of the Fire Department, Police Department and Lifeguard Services; shoreline stabilization; downtown redevelopment; protection of Flagler Beach's unique character and the citizens' right to speak on all agenda items.

Commissioner Feind is involved in the following organizations:  parishioner of Santa Maria del Mar; A1A Ocean Shore Scenic Highway and National Scenic Byway Committee Member; former Flagler Beach Code Board member; former member of the Redevelopment Committee; Parks and Recreation Committee; Flagler Beach Historical Museum member; Citizen Supporter Member of Gamble Rogers State Park.  He is a generous contributor to  Flagler Beach organizations:  Fire Department, Historical Museum, Movies in the Park; RSVP, Rotary Club, the Easter Egg Hunt; Holiday at the Beach; the 4th of July Celebration; Chamber of Commerce and Gamble Rogers State Park.

He graduated from St. Peter's college in 1963.  Retired as Captain/Commanding Officer of Police Academy, Newark Police Department in 1995.  Commissioner Feind has been married to Kathy Feind (also very active member of our community) for 44 years.

Commissioner Joy McGrew

Commissioner Joy McGrew has been a resident of the City for 25 years.  She and her husband are proprietors of Silver Star Home Inspections.  Commissioner McGrew is serving her second term as a City Commissioner.  Prior to becoming Commissioner, she served on the County and City Parks and Recreation Committees, as well as being employed by the City.  Commissioner McGrew is actively involved in the Flagler Beach Rotary Club; board member of the James Holland Foundation and is the City's representative on the Flagler Beach Economic Development Task Force.  Commissioner McGrew is currently employed by the Flagler Beach Pharmacy.

Commissioner Linda Provencher

Commissioner Linda Provencher is in her second term as a City Commissioner.  Prior to  becoming a Commissioner, she served on the Planning and Architectural Review Board (one of three quasi judicial boards of the City).  She has been a resident of the City for over 20 years and is actively involved in the Flagler  Beach Environmental Group,  Fin Fans of Flagler and a member of the Flagler Beach Historical Museum. She has been employed by the Golden Lion Restaurant for thirteen years and was a former kindergarten teacher in Flagler and Putnam counties.

She received her BA from St. Leo College and took teaching classes at UCF and UNF.

Commissioner Ron Vath

Commissioner Ron Vath is in his fourth term as a Commissioner and served as Chairman of the Commission for two terms.  He is interested in the City's fiscal responsibility and feels strongly everyone's opinion must be heard.  Commissioner Vath has been a resident of the City of Flagler Beach for 15 years.  He held upper management position for over a decade with the responsibilities for operations throughout the United States.   He received is BS in Mechanical Engineering from Farleigh Dickinson University and his Masters Degree in Environmental Safety Science from New York University and held a professional engineer's  license for many years in California.
